Plumbing Inspection in West Sayville, NY
Only 10% of the people who own a home in West Sayville bought it in 2018 or later. Where houses stay in the same hands, systems get older without anybody being obliged to look at them.
The one-paragraph answer
Homes in West Sayville rarely change hands — only 10% of owner households moved in during 2018 or later — so an inspection there is usually of a house somebody has lived in for years. The buried sewer lateral is still outside both published standards of practice.

When West Sayville moved in
In a town this settled the report is likelier to matter to a seller than a buyer. Knowing what is there before somebody else looks is the whole of the advantage.
| Owner households in West Sayville | Share of all owners |
|---|---|
| Moved in 2021 or later | 2% |
| Moved in 2018–2020 | 8% |
| Moved in 2010–2017 | 21% |
| Moved in before 2010 | 69% |
Source: US Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates, table B25038 (tenure by year householder moved into unit), 2023 release. Universe: 1,273 occupied housing units, of which 1,071 are owner-occupied. This counts when the CURRENT occupant moved in, so it measures recent moves as a share of the housing stock — not a rate of sales per year.
What the inspection will not cover
Neither standard requires an inspector to determine water flow, pressure, quality or potability. A report can be entirely clean on a house whose water arrives at a pressure nobody would live with, because that was never a defect it was looking for.

What it is required to cover
Sump pumps are in scope on both standards — InterNACHI for drainage pumps with an accessible float, ASHI for sewage ejectors and sump pumps. Accessible is the whole qualifier. A float nobody can reach is not a float anybody tested.
The full list of obligations is published here. Reading it once is what stops a standard note from looking like a finding.
What to do about it
If you are selling, establish it before somebody else does. The same finding is worth more to a buyer who discovered it than to one who was told.
The two standards are published in full and worth ten minutes: what is excluded, what is covered, and why the drains outside the house are a separate instruction.
