Plumbing Inspection in Schodack Landing, NY
In Schodack Landing, 27% of owner households moved in during 2018 or later — close to the middle of the towns we cover. Enough movement that inspections are routine, not enough that anybody treats them as routine.
The one-paragraph answer
27% of owners in Schodack Landing bought in 2018 or later, an ordinary rate. Ordinary is where the usual mistake happens, which is assuming the inspection covered the plumbing: the buried lateral is excluded by both published standards.

When Schodack Landing moved in
An average rate hides two different populations: recent buyers with a report, and long-standing owners without one. The advice for the two is not the same.
| Owner households in Schodack Landing | Share of all owners |
|---|---|
| Moved in 2021 or later | 21% |
| Moved in 2018–2020 | 5% |
| Moved in 2010–2017 | 36% |
| Moved in before 2010 | 37% |
Source: US Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates, table B25038 (tenure by year householder moved into unit), 2023 release. Universe: 318 occupied housing units, of which 280 are owner-occupied. This counts when the CURRENT occupant moved in, so it measures recent moves as a share of the housing stock — not a rate of sales per year.
What the inspection will not cover
Visual means visual. Pipe inside a wall, under a slab or below grade is not observed, and neither standard asks anyone to open a sealed access panel to reach it. InterNACHI names polybutylene piping in its exclusions outright.

What it is required to cover
The covered list is shorter than the excluded one and it is not thin. Every fixture run, every toilet flushed, the drain-waste-vent system described, the water heater and its venting examined, the shut-offs located. That is a real morning of work and it is worth knowing it happened.
What is actually covered — because silence in a report means one thing about a covered system and something completely different about an excluded one.
What to do about it
Ask a contractor what would have to be opened up to answer the question, rather than asking for a number. A quote given without that step is a guess with a figure attached to it.
The two standards are published in full and worth ten minutes: what is excluded, what is covered, and why the drains outside the house are a separate instruction.

Checking a plumber in New York
Checking a credential in New York
New York issues no state plumbing license. New York City licenses Master and Journeyman Plumbers through the Department of Buildings; elsewhere in the state it is your own city, town or county. Start here. Ask the contractor which municipality licenses them and confirm it with that office before work begins.
Inspection report in front of you?Read us the plumbing lines and nothing else — we do not want the document. We will route you to a contractor covering your area who can quote the items on it, and you are never charged by us. We take Schodack Landing requests that never appeared on any inspection.
