Plumbing Inspection in Hauppauge, NY

Hauppauge is settled. Only 13% of owner households moved in during 2018 or later, which means most of the plumbing here has not been looked at by anybody in a long time.

The one-paragraph answer

Only 13% of owners in Hauppauge arrived in 2018 or later, which makes this settled ground. Long tenure does not change the scope: a standard inspection covers what can be seen and operated, and the drain line beyond the house is excluded from it.

PresalePipe is a referral service, not a contractor or a home inspector. We connect homeowners and buyers with independent contractors. Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. Every state page sets out who licenses plumbers there and where to check, so you can confirm before work begins. We carry out no inspections and no work, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call.

When Hauppauge moved in

A settled town accumulates deferred questions. Nobody has been obliged to look, so nobody has, and the first person to find out is often whoever is selling.

Universe: 5,581 occupied housing units, of which 4,661 are owner-occupied. This counts when the CURRENT occupant moved in, so it measures recent moves as a share of the housing stock — not a rate of sales per year.

What the inspection will not cover

Lawn irrigation is excluded. It is buried, it is seasonal, and it is connected to the same supply as the house — which makes it the one excluded item that can affect something the inspection did cover.

What it is required to cover

InterNACHI requires the location of the main water shut-off and the main fuel shut-off to be described, and whether the supply is public or private. Those are the three lines worth copying out of the report on the day you get it, because nobody looks them up until they are standing in water.

The covered list in full. Most people read the exclusions and stop; the two only mean anything against each other.

What to do about it

Ask a contractor what would have to be opened up to answer the question, rather than asking for a number. A quote given without that step is a guess with a figure attached to it.

Both standards are public. Start with the exclusions, then the obligations, and read the sewer scope separately — it is ordered on its own for a reason.

New York issues no state plumbing license. New York City licenses Master and Journeyman Plumbers through the Department of Buildings; elsewhere in the state it is your own city, town or county. Start here. Ask the contractor which municipality licenses them and confirm it with that office before work begins.
