Plumbing Inspection in Skillman, NJ
Roughly 19% of the people who own in Skillman bought since 2018. A normal rate for a town this size, and normal is where the gaps in a standard inspection do their quiet work.
The one-paragraph answer
19% of owners in Skillman bought in 2018 or later, an ordinary rate. Ordinary is where the usual mistake happens, which is assuming the inspection covered the plumbing: the buried lateral is excluded by both published standards.

When Skillman moved in
Enough houses change hands here for inspections to be routine, which tends to make people incurious about them. The scope is where the surprises are, and it is published rather than hidden.
| Owner households in Skillman | Share of all owners |
|---|---|
| Moved in 2021 or later | 5% |
| Moved in 2018–2020 | 14% |
| Moved in 2010–2017 | 39% |
| Moved in before 2010 | 42% |
Source: US Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates, table B25038 (tenure by year householder moved into unit), 2023 release. Universe: 2,638 occupied housing units, of which 2,334 are owner-occupied. This counts when the CURRENT occupant moved in, so it measures recent moves as a share of the housing stock — not a rate of sales per year.
What the inspection will not cover
Water conditioning systems are excluded by ASHI outright, along with lawn irrigation, fire suppression and clothes washer connections. None of that is an inspector cutting corners; it is the published boundary of the service.

What it is required to cover
InterNACHI requires the location of the main water shut-off and the main fuel shut-off to be described, and whether the supply is public or private. Those are the three lines worth copying out of the report on the day you get it, because nobody looks them up until they are standing in water.
The rest of what an inspector must do is set out here. It is shorter than the excluded list and it is the half that tells you what a finding is worth.
What to do about it
Ask a contractor what would have to be opened up to answer the question, rather than asking for a number. A quote given without that step is a guess with a figure attached to it.
The two standards are published in full and worth ten minutes: what is excluded, what is covered, and why the drains outside the house are a separate instruction.
